How to create your API key

Log into your account → open Settings → API.

Click Create key.

Heads up: Kalshi may first ask you to Verify location — API access is gated behind it. If you see that prompt, complete it, then come back and create your key.

On the permissions screen, select “Read all data.” Do not select “Full access.”

Select “Read all data” — never “Full access.” “Read all data” grants only the read-side permissions (such as Portfolio balance and Read block trades) and excludes every write permission — Trade, Transfers, and Accept block trades. A key created this way can view your history but can never place a trade or move funds. “Full access” can do both and should never be used here.

Copy your Key ID — looks like a1b2c3d4-e5f6-…

Open the .pem file in any text editor, select all, paste below — header and footer lines included.

paste full text, not a file path
Your private key is transmitted over HTTPS, used in memory to sign a single read-only API request, and immediately discarded. It is never written to our database, logs, or any storage. If you want a new report next year, you re-paste it — there is nothing to steal in the meantime.
